Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence
Georgia O'Keeffe Elementary School - Our Baldrige Journey During the 1999 - 2000 school year, Georgia O’Keeffe Elementary School (GOK) had the opportunity to apply to become a Baldrige in Demonstration School for the state of New Mexico through the Strengthening in Schools (SQS) initiative. Georgia O’Keeffe Elementary School was chosen and during the 2000 - 2001 school year all staff members were trained in the concepts of the Baldrige Criteria and Quality Concepts. The school continues to use the Baldrige framework for its school improvement process. The following excerpts from the Baldrige in Education website provide a short explanation of the Baldrige framework. In the section that explains the seven Baldrige categories, links to examples from our school are provided to enhance the understanding of the concept. The Criteria were created in 1987 and were designed to help American business and industry gain a competitive edge in the global market. The education version of the Criteria was created in the mid-1990s as a framework for understanding and improving school performance and student learning.
