Ms. Keene spent 15 years at the elementary school level, the last three years as Principal of Marie Hughes Elementary School in Taylor Ranch. Prior to that, she spent six years as Assistant Principal at Taft Middle School. In addition, Ms. Keene served as a Special Education Program Coordinator and an APS/UNM Clinical Supervisor working with teacher interns. During her tenure with APS, she was also employed as a part time instructor in the College of Education at the University of New Mexico for 14 years.

As an elementary school Principal, Ms. Keene had the pleasure of working with the Strengthening Quality in the Schools (SQS) project, and was delighted when her former school received the Piņon Award. She has been deeply involved in PTA projects, Join-A-School initiatives, curriculum writing, and Child Advocacy. Ms. Keene became the Principal at Georgia Keeffe in August 2003.

Ms. Keene met her husband, Steve, an Albuquerque native and graduate of Sandia High School, while in graduate school. He is a Partner in the CPA firm of Neff and Ricci. Their son attended Georgia O'Keeffe in grades 1-3.
